SDL Empowers Global Authoring with SDL AuthorAssistant

New software helps authors deliver translation-ready content

SDL International, the world’s leading provider of translation services and technology solutions, today announced SDL AuthorAssistant™ 2005, which dramatically advances the quality and efficiency of global authoring processes.

Even though international markets often count for 50% or more of revenues, many global organizations do not think of translation when they initially create content. Leveraging existing translation assets, such as translation memory and terminology, earlier in the content value chain can enable content creators to improve brand consistency, speed up time-to-market and drive down translation costs.

SDL AuthorAssistant enables creators of corporate content to perform real-time, automated comparisons of newly authored content with existing translation memories and terminology glossaries. Content volumes for translation are minimized and forbidden terms are excluded.

By integrating a common set of visual tools directly into Adobe FrameMaker, Arbortext Epic, Blast Radius XMetaL and Microsoft Word, SDL AuthorAssistant empowers authors to create content that complies with corporate standards and is optimized for the translation process.

“We are excited by the potential of SDL AuthorAssistant to provide our authors with a business tool that assists the process of creating translation-ready content,” commented Ann Nasella, Worldwide Operations Manager at Kodak. "This will improve the quality and consistency of our global communications and at the same time reduce translation volumes and shorten time-to-market."

“For the first time, managers can ensure global content is created with brand consistency from the outset," commented Keith Mills, Chief Technology Officer at SDL International. “SDL AuthorAssistant leverages the value in an organization’s translation assets to further optimize the global information lifecycle.”
